dc.description.abstractINTRODUCTION|"While men and women in the military make tremendous sacrifices every day to safeguard democracy and to maintain peace and stability, men and women of the legal profession are working hard to establish and preserve the rule of law." In the case of United States Army Rule of Law ("RoL") Judge Advocate ("JA") attorneys, we do both! I recently completed a one year tour as Brigade RoL JA in Basrah, Iraq from July 2009 to July 2010, while assigned to 17th Fires Brigade from Fort Lewis, Washington. With about two months notice to prepare for my responsibilities as RoL JA, I quickly realized just how unprepared I was for my mission in terms of understanding what constituted the RoL, how I would effectively accomplish the mission of further developing the RoL in Basrah Province, and with whom I would work to make this all happen. Throughout my year in Basrah, my military partners, my interagency partners, and I would continue to review, revise, and refine our approach in order to accomplish the goals and objectives set by the United States Forces Iraq ("USF-I")...en_US
