Abstract
This paper aims to add to the minimal literature on B Corps, as well as to uncover possible trends as to the phenomenon of B Corp decertification. Utilizing the B Corp Impact Data dataset, which consists of over 4,000 firm level observations, this study examines multiple variables and the possible relationship to decertification. By taking the approach of investigating the decertification of B Corps, this will help fill the void left by researchers who have neglected this important facet of the B Corp movement. The certification process can be time consuming and expensive. Understanding tendencies which may amplify an organization’s likelihood of decertifying may enable an organization to reflect in order to determine if B Corp certification is the right step at the right time. Furthermore, discoveries could potentially help guide assessment officials (i.e., B Lab) on trends to be aware of leading to decertification, in order for them to intervene and help consult accordingly.
