Abstract
This large-format, paper-bound book is like four others in the collection, three of which are dated 1937, while one did not show a date and might have been from about "1946." Like those, this publication combines full-page illustrations that are full-colored (there are five here) with different styles and colors of monochromatic illustrations. The double pagination is curious, 27-52 as well as 107-132. The four full-color illustrations inside the book are "The Lion and the Mosquito" (27); "The Cook and the Swan" (31); OF (35); and "The Fly and the Coach" (39). The fifth colored illustration is the cover illustration of "The Pedant and the Drowning Child." Here are two last curiosities in this curious book. As in the other four, the cover reads "Fables de la Fontaine" but the title-page reads "Fables Choisies de la Fontaine et Florian." In fact, I do not notice any Florian fables here. Secondly, the cover illustration has a signature, apparently beginning with a "p." I cannot make out the rest, though the finish of the signature mimics the long straight line in the beginning "p."
