Abstract

The March 10, 2006 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education included an article reporting results from the faculty survey conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA regarding faculty members’ views on developing students’ selfunderstanding and values. The article further reports how faculty views are similar to those expressed by freshmen entering colleges and universities in 2004. This issue of “News from Institutional Research” reports on the responses of the almost eight hundred fifty Creighton entering freshmen who completed the “College Student Values and Beliefs” survey and compares those responses to over 2,000 freshmen at four other Jesuit institutions (Fairfield, Loyola Baltimore, University of San Francisco and Wheeling Jesuit) and over 98,000 freshmen in the national norm group. A later issue of “News” will report results from the faculty survey and discuss similarities and discrepancies between the professorate and entering freshmen with regard to views on developing self-understanding and values.
