INTRODUCTION|In 1973, the Nebraska Legislature introduced Legislative Bill 354 ("L.B. 354"), which proposed to adopt the Uniform Probate Code ("UPC"), with certain variations, into law. The law in Nebraska at the time of L.B. 354's introduction was similar to the UPC, yet there was heated debate over the bill in the Nebraska Legislature. After publishing a study comparing L.B. 354 and prior Nebraska law, the Legislature passed the bill, which became effective January 1, 1977.
