Abstract
"It was really great to have your letter and only the job of finishing the Tunisian campaign has kept me from writing to you before this. I wish also that there could be some way of getting you over here because I know that your presence would be of big help to all of us, but even those who give orders must take them as well so that you and I have no choice in the matter. To vary the business routine of conferences every now and the Ike and I relax to do swap Stories of the ""good old days"" as we as the new ones and it would be ideal if, when this is over, We could all meet again to exchange our varied experiences At this stage of the game, I cannot say that we are at a standstill, but that in passing one obstacle, we are busy prepare¬ the next headline for the paper. It is certainly not enough that we have run the Hun from Africa and I don't mean to rest until we have finished the job completely. In one of the German hospitals, words were printed on a wall which said that Wars must be fought every twenty to keep the world, in good running order - or words to that effect. I believe that we'd better before the next one is started finish this one in a hurry, then, to allow some lapse of time. Please write me again you have the time as I enjoy thoroughly reading them, contrary to what my belated response would indicate."
