Abstract

First published in the USA by the Mallard Press in 1989. This version gets into the insult when the "Tar Baby" does not respond to Brer Fox's kind greetings. Brer Fox and Brer Bear knew how Brer Fox hated it when folks did not return his greeting. The art here is big, dramatic, colorful. The illustrations are good for showing how Brer Rabbit got "involved" with the Tar Baby. We would better say "How he got stuck" with the Tar Baby! Soon Brer Rabbit is asking that whatever they do, they not throw him into the briar patch. That is exactly what they do, and the briar patch helps to remove the tar from him, and he goes free, exulting right before them!
