Abstract

This qualitative instrumental case study focused on the adult perceptions of faculty, staff mentors, administrators and parents on the process of Ignatian formation of the whole person in an all-boys Jesuit middle and high school. The school in this instrumental case study was one of the 54 traditional Jesuit high schools in the Jesuit School Network of the United States which, as of this writing, has approximately seven member schools with a combined model of middle and high school. The data from 18 adult interviews pointed to five main themes and findings that emerged from this qualitative study, which supported the extant literature that students who have additional years and experiences of Ignatian formation, mentorship, rigorous academic preparation, and exposure to the Jesuit profile of the Graduate at Graduation in middle school tend to have a positive experience in the transition to high school, and that they experience success at the next level. The study concludes with recommendations and strategic solutions for Ignatian transformational leaders who are seeking to adopt this emerging Jesuit model of combined middle and high school education for boys.
