Abstract

The Nebraska Victim Assistance Academy (NEVAA) offers interdisciplinary, academically-based foundation-level education for professionals from all arenas who assist crime victims. Victims of crime are some of the most vulnerable members of our society, often stripped of inherent human dignity (US Council of Catholic Bishops, 2000). Advocates, educators, medical personnel, law enforcement and allied professionals are often a victim’s lifeline; their first step in the healing process. NEVAA was created through a federal grant from the Office for Victims of Crime (which funds it through October 2014, after which private funding will be needed) to help those who come into contact with victims better serve them.
