Abstract
As tile title indicates, the purpose of this investigation is to discover the nature and extent of the criticisms given George Washington during the eight years of his presidency. The word "criticism" is taken in the nature of a censure, and these censures are limited to those given by contemporary critics of our first President. This study relies quite heavily upon newspapers of Washington’s day which were read at the State Historical Society Library at Madison, Wisconsin.
