Domestic Law - Supreme Court Review

Abstract

FIRST PARAGRAPH(S)|During the past year, the Nebraska Supreme Court issued a large number of decisions falling generally within the areas of domestic and juvenile law. For the purposes of the survey, the most significant of these cases are divided for analysis into the more specialized categories of civil procedure, child custody, child support and alimony. These particularized subjects will be taken up seriatim, in the above order.|CIVIL PROCEDURE|Among the most important and interesting domestic law cases this year were several dealing with questions of procedure. Perhaps the most significant of these was Tiedeman v. Tiedeman, a case deriving from an attempt to register a foreign divorce decree in Nebraska. The major issue in the case flowed from the defendant husband's attempt to nullify a judgment for temporary and permanent child support, entered against him by the Oklahoma court, on grounds that the court did not possess adequate jurisdiction over his person...
