Abstract

This paperback book approaches the ultimate in cheap facsimiles. After a page declaring the publisher, with a blank verso, there is a title page with a lovely large woodcut illustration. Then there are seven pages of facsimile text, followed by 38 blank pages! While it is a pleasure to see Sachs' work from 1556, it is hard to conceive of what we have here as a "book." The two fables are DLS and "The Frog As a Doctor," both in rhyming couplets. The title-page woodcut is strong and detailed. Sachs attributes both stories to Avianus.
