Abstract

A qualitative case study into the types and scope of participation in decision making (PDM) at Corps Casualty Group, a medium-sized insurance company in North America, was conducted in the winter and spring of 2019. The case study reviewed archival documents, seven years of survey data, direct observation, two focus groups with senior leaders and directors, and 10 semi-structured interviews with managers in the Claims department. The researcher found that PDM was in existence and had increased over the past seven years. PDM at the organization also correlated to increased levels of employee engagement. The final chapter of this dissertation is a plan to formalize, assess, and increase PDM throughout the organization.
