Abstract
The French never tire of producing big, colorful books of La Fontaine for children. Here is another, using the styles of four distinct illustrators along with La Fontaine's original verse texts. Among the better illustrations are these: "The Ass and the Dog" (18-19); OF (28); and GA (46-47). Animals are typically dressed. Grégoire the shoemaker gets a guitar for his singing (88)! I have always thought of him as too taken up with his shoemaking and shoe repairing to have a guitar in his hands. He sings because he loves shoemaking!
