Abstract

A number of people have attempted to get Archdiocesan officials interested in including non-discrimination clauses in the construction contracts associated with the new Education Fund. Such pleas have to date been unsuccessful. Many of my friends think that we should do something, and attached you will find the something that could be most successful! Can we depend on you to get enough signatures to complete the several petitions attached? They should be returned to me by March 22, 1965. The Archdiocese (Specifically the Archbishop) must be made to realize that in this day it is not sufficient to make an occasional statement on interracial justice. Non-discrimination clauses in Church contracts are a matter of policy in many dioceses throughout our country. It appears that in Omaha, the only way to get similar action is by threatening to with-hold funds. If you decide to help me, please be careful to get only signatures of those who would normally contribute to such a fund drive. After these petitions are returned to me, it is planned for a number of us to approach the Archbishop with the petitions in hand, and i assure you if we have the signatures of enough concerned Catholics we will come away with the desired objective, although I doubt that any of us will be asked to serve on any Archbishop's Commissions nor will we receive any Papal Medals for our success!
