Abstract
INTRODUCTION|In the United States alone, over 1,000 custody cases are fought annually involving Jehovah's Witnesses ("Witnesses"). Most cases involve a young couple in which the mother has converted to the Witnesses, thus alienating the father to such a degree that a divorce results. This Article primarily recounts the difficulties encountered in cases in which the non-Witness, typically the father, is fighting for custody. The major concern of such fathers is that raising their children as Jehovah's Witnesses is not conducive to achieving the goals that most deem important for their children. These goals include being socially involved in school, attending college, pursuing a career, utilizing appropriate medical treatment, and developing tolerance toward persons of a variety of religious faiths and orientations.
