This remarkably well produced, tight, paperback book offers some 160 pages of La Fontaine's fables, most of them beautifully illustrated with full page colored presentations of Gustave Doré's illustrations, better executed than on trade cards of comparable size. The quality of this book represents a real surprise from a buchinist on the right bank in my last day in Paris. There are small horizontal inserts above most fables. I wonder where they originated. MM on the front cover, and "The Angler and Little Fish" on the rear. 4¾" x 7".
