Abstract

Here is a French Panchatantra in interiorly good but exteriorly poor condition. Its front cover is missing, and its back cover seems to be attached now by one thread. The leather spine is intact. It boasts thirteen illustrations. Four are within the Panchatantra portion. On 49 is a Brahman and a crocodile; on 112 TT; on 172 a gardener and the monkeys that kept overrunning his garden; and on 187 the monkey and crocodile. Others are on 231, 252, 274, 281, 290, 306, 313, 333, and 360. The first tantra is by far the longest (129-136). The four others range from 7 to 37 pages in length. I am glad that I found this book.
