Abstract
The following pages represent an effort to tell a story. The story of a confused and downtrodden people who were suddenly shifted from one type of society into another. The shilled worker of the decade 1815 — 1827 was forced away from a rather primitive, individualistic economy into a highly competitive quasi-Industrial system that began to undermine his social position and depress his purchasing power. The story presented here is the attempt made by this class to resist, modify and adjust to this transition.
