Abstract
Here is a charming little paperback book of 46 pages with a T of C at the end, listing its 24 songs. I say "songs" deliberately because I believe there really are not fables here. The songs are charming, and the illustrations -- both the four colored and the many line drawings -- are charming. Perhaps most engaging of them is the song singled out by the publisher to quote in a letter of recommendation of the book, "La Cloche." This letter, in red ink, is one of three things laid in this copy and indicated in the following description from the seller, Peter Everaers: "Wist, Ki - Fables et chansonnettes. Added: by the author signed card and typed letter! Bruxelles, Editions J. Henriquez, 1948. Original illustrated wrapper, 46+4pp. Ca. 20,5 x 14,5 cm. With coloured illustration on frontwrapper and four full-page inside in Russian avant-garde style by Adrien (?) and numerous other illustrations. Added: by the author signed card, typed letter and a brochure, signed by the publisher. Wrapper a little discoloured and with a small damage; good copy." Perhaps the strongest of the four colored illustrations is "Au Paradis de Dieu" (29). Among the line-drawings, I found "Le Cimiterre" especially engaging (25). This is certainly a rare piece of ephemera!
