Abstract

This is an 82-page book, 6½" x 9¼", presenting 12 well-told fables of 4 to 8 pages each. The fables are especially well chosen for their lessons to young children. The only eating of one animal by another occurs when the king-seeking frogs get a crane king. There are good changes in several fables from the usual Aesopic form. DW is about two dogs. "Horse and Ass" is about two mules, and one of them only falls and does not die. The text offers special help to early readers by underscoring and highlighting unusual uses of letters. There is a full-page illustration on every right-hand page. I would be happy having my child learn fables with this book!
