Abstract

This book is curiously similar in size and purpose to another published in the same year in Toulouse. In either Rouen or Toulouse, it would have been a fascinating time to be alive! That book, I realized as I compared the two, was edited by Coste. This copy, though it has frequent notes at the page bottom, does not claim an editor, and the notes are not the same. Curiously, there is an illustration at the very same place, at the beginning of the first fable of the first book. Again it is a rural agricultural scene, this time of the sower sowing seed. There is a similar ornament at the corresponding place in the beginning of the second part, which starts here on 145; this time it is a river scene with a man punting a boat. There is also an assembly of mice on the second part's title-page. The corresponding image on the first part's title-page was from FM. There are also various printer's designs, like GA on 201. This well-worn book has a leather binding. There is a T of C at the end of either of the two parts and a list of errata on 374.
