Abstract
Here is the second of two small volumes, 3½" x 5½". This volume has three pages of illustrations, each with six small squares with a fable title beneath each. The illustrations are again actually quite strong for the very limited space. The illustrations occur opposite the title-page and at the beginning of Book IX and of Book XI. The first set of illustrations includes MM, in which the milkmaid has fallen to the ground. The second has a bear who is wonderfully poised to deliver a real whack to the impertinent fly! The third set shows this artist, like so many others, struggling to present a realistic lion's face. From the looks of 250, this volume may be missing a final page or two. Green leather cover with an embossed geometric design. Printed by Firmin Didot Freres.
