Abstract
This is Volume 1 of 6 volumes, 3¾" x 5¾", comprising Books I and II. There is nothing here beyond the fables and a dedication to the Dauphin: no T of C or AI. Bodemann lists this edition as derivative from Vivier, Simon, and Coiny's limited edition of 1787 by Pierre Didot l'aîné (#174.1). There are 46 illustrations here, superbly executed. I enjoy particularly "Pupil and Master" (33) and OR (38). Thirteen years ago I found Volume V with a slipsheet for each illustration and a separated cover. Here there are no slipsheets, but the illustration pages continue to have nothing on the obverse. The seller notes the beauty of the binding with comments "reliures de l'époque plein veau glacé, dos ornés (coiffes légèrement frottées, quelques rousseurs). Ex-libris manuscrit : Fred. Daumergue (?)." I wrote then "Now to find the other five!" Mission accomplished!
