Abstract

This book of La Fontaine's fables is unusual in several ways. First, it has an irregularly shaped window looking through from the cover onto the turtle on the first page. Secondly, it has only six pages inside -- and thus, with the covers, is only eight pages long. Thirdly, its pages are as thick and stiff as its covers. Fourthly, it presents this La Fontaine fable largely in its own new verses. Contrary to my understanding of La Fontaine's version, this hare does start the race fast but soon enjoys a carrot. The back cover has the two racers shaking hands after the race. This booklet belongs to a set of three that will be very hard to complete, I believe. The book has a 1996 copyright but a "January of 2000" Dépôt légale.
