Abstract
As the preface declares, this pamphlet of 39 pages "consists of five well-known Fables and five original stories. Each story illustrates a moral." The level of vocabulary and sentence structure is adapted to pupils who have had two or three years of English. First published in 1969, it was reprinted in 1970. The telling of OF is unusual. Two young frogs who think that their mother is the biggest creature in the world see a bull for the first time and report it to her. She also thinks that she is the biggest creature in the world! She pops before them. "The two frogs looked everywhere for their mother but they couldn't find her. She had burst!" The partnered story has Raju trying to build the biggest house in the world in a village in India; it falls down in a storm. For LM, the matching story has the boy Ganesh remove a thorn from a dog's paw. The next day, the dog finds Ganesh lost in the woods and leads him home. Other stories include TH, FC, and DS. Each story has one or two simple black-and-white cartoons.
