Abstract
This book was a chance find in a lovely used bookshop on my first afternoon in Munich. I was particularly happy to find it because of its early date and its unusual character. A routine check on Weinzierl turned up that he had also published a book of Desbillon's fables three years later and that we have it in the collection. And it is from the same publisher. One of the interesting features of the book is the heavy dose at its beginning of permissions and dedications. Bavaria was expressing its loyalty to the Catholic Church! A T of C at the beginning lists Phaedrus' five books and the individual fables in them. Introductory material then is on 1-64. I will leave it to another time to sample Weinzierl's translations, perhaps on my next visit to Phaedrus.
