Abstract
This is our fourteenth book illustrated by Monique Gorde, all but one apparently done by either Lito or its companies in other countries. Apparently, “Il était une fois…” is the name of the series – and of each book, which gets its identity then from the individual subtitle. This member of the series brings together seven La Fontaine fables with “Cheveux de la Lune.” The fables are TH; FG; MM; “The Ass and the Lapdog”; FS; “The Coach and the Fly”; and “The Cat, the Weasel, and the Little Rabbit.” Now it so happens that these seven fables join one other fable (2P) in Lito’s “Les Fables de La Fontaine” in the Collection “Super Luxe” in 1972. The cover pictures of these two books are in fact exactly the same! As I wrote there, maybe the most striking figure in the book is the fox thirsting for grapes. The figures in FS are also strong.
