Abstract
Eileen B. Lieben, Dean of Women and namesake of Creighton’s
Center for Women, requested formation of a committee to address
the needs and concerns of women across campus. In 1971, Fr.
Joesph J. Labaj, S.J. appointed an advisory committee and shortly
thereafter the first committee meeting was held on October 28,
1971. The University Committee on the Status of Women was
made a standing statutory committee in 1973. Since that time
faculty, staff and student committee members have worked to
uphold the committee’s mission; giving tribute to the efforts of
Creighton women of the past and providing a supportive
environment for the women of the present and future.
