Abstract

The Bindle Stiff and Other Stories is a collection of short fiction. “The Bindle Stiff” is a dusty re-examination of the value we place on human life, set in the Central Plain states in the early 1940’s. The other stories referenced in the title are lightly satirical modern yarns, each with its modern, and timeless, problem. The problem of “Devil’s Mountain” is childless yuppie self-absorption, “Diamonds and Rust” takes on adolescent revenge, and “The War on Christmas” is little more than the grave, but sad consequences of wrongheaded, love.
