Abstract
Here is a 32-page one-staple pamphlet, with half the pages presenting full-page colored illustrations. This version may not be true to La Fontaine, who has the hare wait at the starting line, as it were, to make it interesting. Is the setting here that there are various contests, and animals need to register to compete? So it seems. The artists' cleverly juxtapose 23 and 25. The first shows the turtle behind the rabbit. The second shows the turtle in the same spot with the rabbit now out of sight. The final illustration of the finish line is good, with the tortoise in the foreground and the hare in the background. The last page features questions and a crossword puzzle. 5¼ by 7¾".
