Abstract
My short stay in Franklin was rewarded by finding this paperback Penguin of Aesop. It surprises me. Although it uses the introduction Robert Temple gave his translation in the late 1990's, I think the source of its texts is not Temple's Penguin edition but rather Perry's "Aesopica." There is a reference to the original title of that name, but no reference to Ben Edwin Perry. I am not sure where else -- certainly not in any Penguin that our collection has -- one finds 472 fables, nicely arranged according to their sources: Augustana; "Primera Recension"; "Otros Codices"; Babrius; "Fables from the Life of Aesop"; Aphthonius; Syntipas; Byzantine; Laurentius; Other Authors: and a final addendum. An extensive T of C at the end gives a good overview of those divisions.
