Abstract

Foreword: United Community Services has prepared this Directory of Social Services as a guidebook to resources for services for the Omaha and Douglas County Area. It is furnished without charge in the hope that it will be a valuable reference for all who are interested in social welfare services, whether in a professional or volunteer capacity. Additional copies are available upon request. Included are those organizations or departments whose direct and primary function is in health, welfare and recreation, as well as those whose work is closely related to these fields. Members of United Community Services are indicated by an asterisk and those which financially participate in the annual campaign carry the feather symbol. The table of contents is classified according to function. In the main body of the directory, agencies are arranged alphabetically with the address, telephone number, title of the executive or chief officer and a brief description of the purpose or services offered. There has been no attempt to evaluate the service offered by any agency listed, nor does its inclusion indicate an endorsement of its program. Many churches, civic groups and other organizations carry on phases of health and welfare work but are not included, since it is not their primary function.
