Abstract
Reading readiness is a term used to describe a degree of development which is needed before a child starts to read. It is a concept which contains a wealth of educational implications. "There is no magic that makes children suddenly grow up as they step into first grade. What happens will be the logical outcome of all that has gone before." There is little doubt as to the importance of this period of transition from the kindergarten to the period in first grade when the child begins reading from actual pre-primers and primers.
