INTRODUCTION|For over thirty years, the Supreme Court of the United States has recognized that the death penalty is not an unconstitutionally excessive punishment. In Gregg v. Georgia, the Supreme Court held that the death penalty, as a form of punishment, may be imposed for the crime of murder. Since then, the Supreme Court has narrowed the usage of the death penalty, preventing its use against certain classes of defendants.
