Abstract

AbstractA descriptive case study approach was utilized in a southeastern United States Catholic Diocese to gain a better understanding of the conflict competency of eight ministry leaders to explore their competence in dealing with conflict pre and post education intervention. Participants were provided with a conflict scenario in a preliminary interview then an online training program featuring six video modules with pre and post quizzes. Subsequently, they had a second interview with a different conflict scenario to assess any changes in their approach following the training. The training provided tools in understanding conflict, peer mediation, empathy, active listening, collaboration, and emotional intelligence. The participants demonstrated more effective ways of approaching conflict to seek mutually beneficial solutions with maximal results. The researcher proposes to utilize this training program to educate leaders and their teams in conflict competence.
