Abstract

"Here is a small (3½" x 5½") presentation of the second half of La Fontaine's fables including a frontispiece of MM and five other full-page illustrations. Those illustrations include "The Complaining Pig" (200); "The Monkey and the Leopard" (233); "Two Adventurers and the Talisman" (282); "The Farmer, the Dog, and the Fox" (293); and "The Wolf and the Fox" (327). The illustrations were done by Charles Chasselat and Robert DeLauney. Their collaboration may provide a clue to the ancestry of this work, which is not in Bodemann. What is in Bodemann is an edition of 1812 by Corbet and Hadamard. Their size and description seems to fit perfectly, and there were twelve of them in the full set of La Fontaine's fables. Here there are six in the second half. There is an AI on 389-402. Now to find the first volume and the 1812 original edition!"
