Abstract

BACKGROUND The growth of cultural and ethnic diversity in the United States demographics over the past fifteen to twenty years has driven an increase in the development of international clinical experiences across health profession education. The literature implicates that cultural competency and proficiency play an important role in reducing the impact of health disparities in the global health care system. Although the current evidence emphasizes the significant impact of culturally immersive clinical education experiences on student participants' cultural competence, the research focused on the impact of culturally immersive clinical education on the students' future occupational therapy clinical practice is very limited.
