Abstract

An application of Onsager's Theory is made to biological transport phenomena. By transforming the coefficient matrix (the Onsager L matrix) to the diagonal form we obtain a new relation between the entropy production and the state parameters (flows or forces) of the system. Active transport across a biological membrane can be studied in terms of the translation of the origin of the system in this new picture.
