Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to advocate for the implementation of leadership rounding as a proactive strategy to address the pressing need for enhancing staff satisfaction and nurse retention within healthcare organizations.
Background: The nursing profession faces the challenge of burnout and turnover, exacerbated by factors such as the global pandemic, inadequate staffing levels, and increasing work demands. Recent data from the American Hospital Association and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership highlights a concerning trend, with a significant number of nurses leaving the workforce or intending to do so in the coming years. This issue not only jeopardizes the well-being of healthcare professionals but also compromises patient care quality and organizational stability, necessitating urgent interventions to mitigate nurse burnout and turnover.
Sample/Setting: The sample/setting encompasses a diverse range of healthcare organizations, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities, where nurse burnout and turnover are prevalent issues. Furthermore, facilities which utilize leadership rounding are included.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was completed using Jay Search. Keywords such as: leadership, rounding, nurse burnout, staff satisfaction and authentic leadership were utilized to perform the search.
Results: Structured rounding emerges as a highly recommended practice, supported by evidence of its positive impact on staff satisfaction, workplace culture, and ultimately nurse retention.
