Abstract

The purpose of this project was to determine the effectiveness of Lee Silverman's Voice Treatment BIG (LSVT-BIG) on increasing engagement in occupations for individuals with Parkinson's Disease. LSVT-Big is an intensive amplitude-based exercise program that focuses on re-educating the sensorimotor system. Exercise has been shown to delay the progression of Parkinson's disease and minimize the impact of symptoms. However, there is no gold standard treatment or intervention that is given to those with this diagnosis. LSVT BIG has recently gained popularity in the field of occupational and physical therapy due to increased research demonstrating the benefits for this population.
