Abstract
This beautiful and rare publication was prompted, it seems, by the finding of some extra copies of one of Bewick's glorious woodblocks reprinted by R.H. Middleton in 1979. One of those copies is pasted in near the beginning of this slender volume. Several splendid Bewick vignettes are printed here as well. This publication has connections with the 1980 publication of Bewick's work by Florin Press in this collection. There is also a lovely verse version of this fable late in the booklet. The fable itself, as Bewick commented, evokes more than one emotion.
