Abstract

Beauty is a state of being in which one is raised above time and place, lifted out of the stream of life and freed from the practical demands of living. Man has a need for beauty which art serves. Beauty is born in the soul of the artist and materially incarnated through one of the seven media of art. To those whose higher faculties are attuned to grasp its message it conveys an exaltation which affects the soul although entering through the senses. |Beauty has many avenues by which it enters the heart to intoxicate and place it in a realm in which it experiences exquisite pleasure. Two kindred entrees supplying this longing for the beauteous come through the channels of music and poetry. Music has been called "the queen of arts," the one most penetrating the imaginative reason and realizing most completely the artistic ideal. Following closely in allaying the thirst for beauty comes poetry, which has been defined as "the rhythmical creation of Beauty. "
