Abstract
This is a standard German school pamphlet presenting 30 French animal fables on 80 pages. About 5" x 7½". The general approach is to present a French fable and then to offer significant commentary, perhaps including a German version. At the back of the pamphlet is an extensive vocabulary for each fable. An adapted version of Fénelon's "Le loup et le jeune mouton" (16) is the third fable presented, followed immediately by La Fontaine's WL. Sometimes, as in #5, a discussion of a tradition seems to precede the presentation of a French fable in the following number. La Fontaine has by far the majority of texts presented here. Other authors here include Marie de France, Mironneau, Florian, Renard, and Noel. One method employed here is "Nachdichtung" (43-44), a cherished memory of mine from the Goethe-Institut.
