Abstract
Here is a Russian grade-school textbook with colored illustrations. The pictures for the early stories remind me of those in our schoolbooks, especially those perhaps ten or twenty years earlier. The stories seem to be about helping people in need and being good schoolchildren. A number of stories feature animals. There are the obligatory (?) pictures of Lenin on 49 and 50 and of soldiers and sailors on 56 and 57. There may be some fables beyond those I recognize. Horse and Wolf is on 80-81. More fables are on 90-91. UP seems to be listed as a fairytale on 98. FS is on 103-4. Fables start up again on 130. There are two pages of lovely illustrations of mushrooms at the end (154-55). Sergei Michalkov seems to appear quite frequently.
