Abstract
"With Bright Colored Pages" marks this as a companion volume to "Fables in Pictures" from the same publisher and in the same size of 9¼" x 14¼". There are only four such "bright colored pages" in the book, as was true of the other book. Stained, loose pages, with cardboard covers blank on the obverse. They feature identical illustrations of TH. The best of the four colored illustrations is BW. Others include "Groaning Mountain"; "Fox and Goat"; and FG. The latter is a clear, simpler imitation of someone's famous work. Three of the stories, with their anomalies, are repeated from the companion book. In BW, little Ivan from the snow-covered territory rousts people falsely from their beds twice in one night. The wolves kill all his sheep and him that very night. In TH, the tortoise is already asleep in the city when the hare finally gets there! "The Groaning Mountain" tells the whole story over two pages without ever involving the concept of birth. Does the story work without making the groans into labor pains? The seller here simply states 1947 as the publication date, and ABE is offering a copy with that date. I had guessed 1930 for the parallel publication; it apparently should be about 1946. "No. 82."
