Abstract
The title continues "Nouvelle Édition, Ornée de deux cents vingt-six gravures, Dédié à la jeunesse." This lovely little (4" x 7") book offers 225 numbered fables on 396 pages. Is that "306" on the last page a typo? Each fable has a rectangular woodcut, uniform in form and size. The frontispiece of Aesop thus brings the total of illustrations to 226. A good sample illustration is FG on 143. The book is not in Bodemann. It belongs in a growing family in our collection that includes so far at least these three members, marked by the reference to Benserade and the phrase "Dédié à la jeunesse." Those other members were published in 1731 (in the family of Bodemann #80); 1764 (in the family of Bodemann #113); and 1798 (no Bodemann reference). A lovely find in Antwerp!
