INTRODUCTION|Child pornography is a form of sexual child abuse evidenced in films, photographs, magazines, books, slides, and video cassettes which show children as young as three years of age engaged in such activities as lewd poses, masturbation, intercourse, fellatio, cunnilingus, rape, incest and sado-masochism. Children are depicted in these activities with other children of the same or opposite sex or with men and women. Victims may be runaways or members of apparently normal families who suffer from an emotionally deprived home life, abuse, or neglect. Many of the children are underachievers and come from unstable or broken homes lacking in parental supervision. |Such children are generally vulnerable and may actually be willing participants in pornographic activities. They are enticed by attention, friendship, and interest that they do not receive at home or by offers of food, shelter, and money. In some cases, victims may be lured into such activities by other children, adult friends or relatives, or even by their own parents.|The effects of sexual encounters by children for the production of pornography can be physically harmful and emotionally devastating. Physical injury may result from premature and inappropriate sexual demands. Children may acquire sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, syphilis, and herpetic type 2 infections.
