Abstract
FIRST PARAGRAPH(S)|The Nebraska Legislature recently enacted an amended version of a comprehensive landlord-tenant act originally drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws [NCCUSL] . The act, denominated the Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act [URLTA], is the product of more than three years of work by the Conference, which itself followed more than two years' work by the American Bar Foundation, the research arm of the American Bar Association. Some of URLTA's provisions make a sharp departure from common law landlord-tenant doctrines, while other provisions merely codify and clarify traditional legal concepts. The substantive legal changes caused by URLTA's departure from present common law doctrine, coupled with the large percentage of the population potentially affected by its enactment, renders consideration of URLTA's practical and legal ramifications of especial interest to Nebraska's legal profession...
