Abstract

"As Amazon's description declares, "Turn story time into an interactive learning experience with four timeless tales and Ollie -- The Talking, Teaching Owl pen! This set includes four beautifully illustrated, 24-page storybooks, each with 11 interactive early learning activities designed to help children master important skills. Perfect for independent, self-paced learning, these books and activities help children master reading comprehension and other critical academic skills." This book is indeed fun. There is one challenge on each pair of pages, with 2-3 correct and 2-3 incorrect answers. Ollie either praises you in words or sings a happy song for correct answers. This version of TMCM includes several country activities: hill climbing, floating on a pond in a leaf, and snacking on corn in a field. When they come to the city, the country mouse asks where the trees are! A cat offers this version's one disturbance. When the mice tiptoe from their hole, the country mouse declares city life too dangerous for him, and the city mouse responds "And I belong in the city." They hug and promise to write letters -- and, as the last page shows, they do. The art on these 24 shiny, plastic pages fits the approach to the story. The art in this number is especially well coordinated with the Ollie questions. "Find the rectangles" and "Find the one in each group that is different" are good examples. Answering these well-varied questions for each pair of pages is fun!"
